Walter Marcyan: A patriot/entrepreneur who helped put POWER in PLF's fight for liberty

All PLF donors are illustrious for noble ideals, generous spirit, and selfless determination to keep freedom alive for generations to come. To all of you, THANK YOU!

Quite a few are also "illustrious" for their paths in life. A good example is the late Dr. Walter Marcyan, a much-honored competitive bodybuilder-one of the early Muscle Beach bodybuilding "stars"-a fitness advocate, and a business genius whose legacy is felt throughout the world.

Dr. Marcyan, who passed away three years ago at 94, opened seven Los Angeles-area gyms beginning in 1946, and developed the first home "all in one" weightlifting machine. His Marcy Fitness Products became a top name in gym equipment.

Marcyan's universal machine "played a huge role in making gyms a little more friendly to the average man or woman who wanted to train," historian Terry Todd told the Los Angeles Times.

With Betty, his wife of 51 years who died the day before he did, Walter put a priority on service to others.

Writes his son, Parker: Walter Marcyan "supported charities that help families in need," and was "an entrepreneur who believed in the American system of free enterprise and individual liberty." Their determination to make freedom part of their legacy is why Dr. and Mrs. Marcyan left PLF a substantial bequest, for which we are very grateful.
